Although the stems remain edible and tasty through summer, it’s best to stop harvesting by June. To harvest, hold the stalk at the base and ease it out of the ground – try to avoid snapping it off.
As the stems develop start to water the plants with Beanstalk plant feed
To promote good flowering next year, feed the bulbs every seven to ten days with a high-potassium fertiliser like Bloom. Begin feeding as soon as shoots appear and stop feeding once the foliage starts to die back.
Apply liquid feed to tulips, daffodils and other spring bulbs to encourage a good display next year.
Now is the time to plant autumn bulbs such as colchicums, sternbergia and nerines, in pots and borders. The vibrant blooms of these plants are instantly recognisable, so they’re perfect for lighting up beds and borders later in the year. Plant them in spring in poor, free-draining soil in full sun, ideally with the added protection of a south or west facing wall.
Sprinkle some soil improver on the surface once the bulbs have been planted.
Remove the plant from its current planter or grow pot. Turn your plant sideways, hold it gently by the stems or leaves, and tap the bottom of its current pot until the plant slides out. Now loosen the roots and replace the potting mix. Add your plant and water well.
Give the plant a good dose of Tend, indoor plant feed
Reinvigorate mature clumps of hardy perennials, such as Hosta, asters and daylilies, by dividing and replanting. Simply cut through the clump with a knife from the crown down.
Dig in Boost soil improver to the hole to give the plants a good start or sprinkle on the surface once they have been firmed in.
