Our story

Nature's superpower, made in Cumbria.

NPFC begins on a family farm in Cumbria, where renewable energy production leaves behind the material that becomes our plant food.

The place

A working farm at Linstock.

NPFC starts on a family farm at Linstock, near Carlisle, in Cumbria. It's a working farm first. Nothing here starts in a factory or a lab.

The people

The people behind it.

We're Alistair Wannop and William Tuer, the people behind The Natural Plant Food Company, and we care about plants. Everything we make comes from our farm in Cumbria.

If you've got a question about your plants, or about ours, we'd like to hear it.

Why NPFC exists

What the farm leaves behind is where NPFC begins.

Crops feed the farm's digester. Digestion makes renewable energy and leaves a nutrient-rich material behind. We turn that material into plant food.

How it works

Field to flowerbed, in six steps.

Pick a step to see what happens there.

Step 1 of 6

Crops grown on the farm

The farm grows the crops that feed its anaerobic digestion plant. Plant and crop material only.

What goes in, and what doesn't

No manure and no waste feedstocks go in. That is confirmed by the site operator, and feedstock records are held.

Step 2 of 6

Anaerobic digestion

The plant material is broken down without oxygen. That is all "anaerobic" means.

Step 3 of 6

Renewable energy, generated on site

That process generates renewable energy on the farm site.

Step 4 of 6

A nutrient-rich material remains

What is left after digestion is a nutrient-rich material. It is where every NPFC feed starts.

Step 5 of 6

Made into NPFC plant food

We turn that material into liquid plant food and soil improver: five products, one job each.

Step 6 of 6

Back to growing

The plant food goes on your houseplants, flowers, veg and lawn. The following year it goes back on the farm, to grow the next crop.

At a glance

The short technical version.

For anyone who wants the facts without the story.

The detail on the feedstock

The farm's anaerobic digestion plant is fed on plant and crop material grown on the farm. No manure and no waste feedstocks go in. That is confirmed by the site operator, and feedstock records are held.

One source, five jobs

One source. Five jobs.

Every feed starts with what the farm's energy process leaves behind. Then each one gets a job, and a colour, so you can find yours on a shelf or a screen.
